(1)  Administradora de Pensiones de Fondes de Pensiones Provida, S.A. ("A.F.P. Provida") holds shares of common stock of the Chile Fund Inc. on behalf of pensions funds that it manages. A.F.P. Provida may be deemed the beneficial owner for purposes of this Form of the securities described above by virtue of holding such securities for the benefit of its pension fund clients by their separate accounts. The filing of this Form should not be construed as an admission that A.F.P. Provida is, for the purposes of Section 16 of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, the beneficial owner of these shares.
